Formation for Children

CGS Good Shepherd
A drawing, by one of our students, of the Good Shepherd protecting His sheep from a wolf.

“Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray.  The disciples rebuked the people; but Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:13-14)

Children aren’t just the future of our Church.  They are an essential part of the Body of Christ right now!

We are excited to offer children’s faith formation classes during the months of the school year for children from pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade and beyond!

We begin with pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, & Year 1 of First Holy Communion Prep engaging in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, which is a Montessori-based style of catechesis.  It is a fantastic method to foster the spiritual growth of children!  We are working to be able to provide CGS in the older grade levels in years to come.

Beginning in Year 2 of First Holy Communion Prep, students return to a more traditional classroom setting, although we make every effort for our catechesis to be different from their usual school day.  Students are placed in age- and developmental-appropriate sections until they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, which is typically in the 8th grade.  (NOTE: we do have a significant number of high school students who come to us to receive Confirmation, and we can accommodate their needs.)

Registration for the 2018-2019 school year ends on Sunday, September 9.  AFTER THAT, NO MORE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!
