Family Faith Formation

CGS Good Shepherd

“Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray.  The disciples rebuked the people; but Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:13-14).

The family is the FIRST PLACE that all of us are called to learn & live the Good News of Jesus Christ! We all need to be better disciples, no matter our age.

That’s why our families engage in faith formation TOGETHER…parents AND children.

Because children learn their faith best from their parents & because parents learn by sharing with their children, we have initiated our Family Faith Formation process! See below for the schedule of Family Faith Formation gatherings.

Family Faith Formation (FFF)

In our parish, the WHOLE FAMILY learns & grows as disciples of Jesus! Whole-family catechesis is becoming very popular around the country because it reminds parents that they are the FIRST & BEST EDUCATORS of their children in the Catholic faith; and it gives them a way to be successful in that role.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Children in our parish, from 3 years old through 6th grade, engage in hands-on learning activities with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, which is a Montessori-based style of catechesis.  It is a fantastic method to foster the spiritual growth of children & parents! Come see our atrium.  Contact Kaye Fox

SUNDAY SESSIONS:   Feb. 5, Feb. 12, Feb. 19, Feb. 26  TIME: 9:10am-10:30am & 11:40am-12:50pm
WEDNESDAY SESSIONS:  Feb. 1, Feb. 8, Feb. 15., Feb. 22

FYI: The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program at St. Mary’s recently hosted an informational seminar on their Montessori-design for religious education and formation for children.  We are so blessed to have Kaye Fox, Teri Freeman, and all the wonderful volunteers working with our children in this amazing program. Proverbs 22:6 says ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.’ These wonderful ladies and their program that they built from the ground up help the children relate more to their faith and our Lord Jesus Christ than any classroom could. These are THE definitive years for a child to have a seed of faith planted in their hearts, and this program does just that! If you feel called to, please contact the Parish Office to learn more about how you can support this program.

Sacramental Preparation

Part of our mission in Family Faith Formation is to prepare children & teens for the Sacraments of the Eucharist & Confirmation.

Preparation for First Holy Eucharist takes place within the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as well as in families’ homes. We also conduct our Family Retreat before First Holy Communion (in the Easter season), which is where children receive their First Reconciliation. Check out our webpage for First Holy Communion preparation.

Preparation for Confirmation will happen within the FFF format (at home, too), with our parish youth ministry, & with two Confirmation retreats (one each year). Check out our webpage for Confirmation preparation.

If your child needs to be prepared for First Eucharist or Confirmation, please contact
